Aigoco VPN

An OpenVPN Connect
alternative for Mac.

Keep your VPN server. Give your connections a clearer home.

Aigoco VPN is a free OpenVPN client for Apple silicon Macs. If you already use OpenVPN Connect, you can import a compatible .ovpn profile into Aigoco VPN and connect to the same server. You get named connections, live traffic stats, light and dark themes, and menu bar controls.

The client is free for life. It does not include a VPN server or a paid provider subscription. Aigoco VPN is developed by AIGOCO and is independent of OpenVPN Inc.; it is not the official OpenVPN Connect app.

Check your profile before switching

The current Mac release supports routed TUN connections over UDP or TCP. Certificates and keys must be embedded in the .ovpn file. Certificate authentication, username and password, encrypted private-key passwords and static challenges are supported.

Some setups need another client: TAP or bridged networks, external certificate files, hardware keys, proxy authentication, SAML or browser sign-in, and dynamic challenges are not supported in this release. Profiles that run scripts or load plugins are rejected. Check the full profile compatibility notes with your administrator.

Move an existing OpenVPN connection to Aigoco VPN

  1. Get your profile. Use the original .ovpn file from your administrator or VPN provider. If you no longer have it, ask them for a new copy with embedded certificates and keys. Keep the file private: it may contain credentials.
  2. Install Aigoco VPN. Download the Mac app, open the ZIP and move the app into Applications. The current download is for Apple silicon; Intel and Windows downloads are not available.
  3. Import and name it. Choose Add connection, select your .ovpn file and review its server and protocol. Rename it to something you recognize, such as Office or Studio.
  4. Connect. Disconnect the same profile in your other VPN client first. Allow Aigoco VPN’s network extension and VPN configuration when macOS asks, then enter any required credentials.
  5. Verify your access. Once the artwork turns green, open a resource you expect to reach through your VPN. Check the Network access information in Connection details if that resource does not load.

See what your connection is doing

A green connection control and matching profile row show when the tunnel is established. Live upload and download rates, transferred totals, session duration and a 60-second traffic graph help you see activity without opening a separate tool.

Your server decides which traffic uses the tunnel. Green indicates an established connection; it does not mean that every internet request is routed through the VPN. The current release does not include a kill switch.

A VPN client that stays close at hand

Closing the window keeps the connection running in the Mac menu bar. Reopen the app or manage the connection there, and choose Quit when you want to exit. Saved profiles and credentials stay on your device, and the app has no advertising or usage analytics.

Before switching a work connection, confirm that your organization permits a different VPN client. Keep your existing setup available until you have verified the resources you need. For help, see OpenVPN profile setup and connection troubleshooting.

Free for life.
